Background:
The school moved to Round Ash Way in 1970 and continued to grow to have more than 14 classes. It offers education from neighbouring villages as well as Hartley, and serves the area 'well'. It consists of an 'unusually spacious' classrooms in a one-storey building. Some of the rooms are of semi-open plan design, while others are more traditional. Hartley is set in a 'beautiful' setting in the centre of the rural village. There are two playing fields, two playgrounds and wooded areas containing numerous mature trees. Hartley recognises the different rates that pupils learn in different subjects and thus considers individual assessment 'essential'. A 'wide' variety of clubs are held after school including football and netball as part of which there are inter-school matches. The school provides tuition on five different musical instruments, and the children sing to the elderly each Christmas. Charity fundraising for local, national and international organisations is a regular feature of school life. Parental support is considered 'very strong'. Many contribute actively in the school. The school is oversubscribed.
