Background:
The school was built in 1895 and consists of a Victorian building with later additions in the same style. There are two playgrounds, a swimming pool and large field. The field is divided into a playing area, and a nature and environmental area with spring and summer meadows, a pond, butterfly area, bird feeding station, compost bin, trees and nature trail. The school has been given an 'Eco school award,' a project for schools run by the Tidy Britain Group. Chevening has close links with the parish church and the school attends services there regularly. Money is raised for charity often and recent recipients include the Ellenor Foundation, which supports hospice care locally and in Romania. There are many extra-curricular clubs including choir, football, netball, pottery, orchestra, recorder, French and short tennis.
