Background:
Opened in 1863, Hawkhurst Primary was formed by the amalgamation of two schools, Moor and Highgate, on a split-site (one mile apart). Its priorities include child's happiness, high quality of learning, and well qualified, hardworking and experience staff. It aims for a broad based curriculum, which is stimulated by visits, films, television, programmes, radio broadcasts and guest speakers. It has spacious classrooms and there is a hall at each site. As well as the Moor site has an outdoor swimming pool and playing fields are nearby. The pupils are described as having a wide range of abilities, being strong on basics with French as a feature. There are many extra-curricular activities on offer and the children are involved in charity fund-raising. The school aims to provide a happy, dynamic and motivating environment, where appropriate and challenging learning opportunities are met with confidence and enthusiasm.
