Background:
Opened in Rochester before the Second World War, moving to Gillingham in the 1950s; current 22-acre site in Rainham, with a river view, dates from 1965. New buildings opened after it became co-educational in 1972; became grant-maintained in 1992, enabling the refurbishment of older buildings, new drama facilities and laboratories. A new English block was opened in 1995. Music is strong and includes an orchestra, choirs and a wind band. There are soccer and netball teams for all years in addition to tennis, athletics, dance, gymnastics, trampoline, basketball, girls' soccer, a Saturday sports club and national representatives in soccer, netball and hockey. Curriculum strengths include English, modern languages, mathematics and economics. Specialist science college status. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. Sportsmark; Investor in People status. The school aims to be a friendly, caring and stimulating community, which motivates young activities to enjoy learning, participate enthusiastically in wider activities and make the lost of their abilities.
