Background:
Founded in 1887 by the Skinners' Company, one of the 'great 12' livery companies in the City of London; voluntary-aided school after seven years years as grant-maintained. New modern language building in 2002, followed by creation of music and performing arts centre. Sport, played at Southfields Park, 15 minutes' walk from school, is strong: rugby, hockey and football; also cricket, tennis, athletics. Two recent members of National Youth Orchestra. Junior drama festival. Consortium arrangements in sixth form with Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys help to widen sixth-form choice. Foreign language exchanges; active charity committee. Flourishing voluntary cadet force and voluntary service group. Peer-mentoring scheme; Young Enterprise; Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Specialist science college status. Before-school care, from 815am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with more than four applications per place.
