Background:
Wateringbury School sits quietly away from the hustle and bustle of road, river and railway, in what was a cherry orchard. Surrounded by fields and trees, the buildings consist of nine open-plan classrooms, a computer room, a hall used for physical education, meals and assemblies, and the usual administrative offices. In the centre of the school, the Atrium houses the school's library and music facility, and is adjacent to a shared activity area. The school encourages children to appreciate music and to develop their listening, speaking and singing skills. Formal music tuition is available in clubs at lunch times and after-school. It provides a range of activities including gymnastics, swimming, netball, soccer, rounders, cricket, hockey, dancing and athletics. The school has achieved a DfES Achievement Award in 2002. The school aims to create a happy, caring, Christian community in which all members, both children and adults have respect for and tolerance of each other.
