Background:
The school founded in 1857, the school is in an 'attractive rural setting' with 'extensive' grounds close to the village centre. It occupies buildings which date from Victorian times and have 'many delightful' features. The hutted classrooms are 'functional' and overlook the playing field and allotment. Yalding's buildings also include a separate library, music room, and areas used to house resources and audio-visual aids. In addition to the broad-based curriculum, which has a 'strong' emphasis on literacy and numeracy, the teaching is enriched through a 'diversity' of visits, both local and further afield. These have included residential trips to the Isle of Wight and France. The school environment is considered a rich resource for learning with areas around the pond developed as a conservation area for science studies. The school offers a 'range' of sports as well as performing arts opportunities and pupils compete in local inter-school matches and music festivals. The school's ethos has a Christian basis and it is a 'major part' of village life. Local organisations support the school, notably the Zeneca Agrochemicals sponsorship. The 'commitment and skill' of staff was recognised by the Investors in People award in 1999.
