Background:
Upton Junior School is situated in the middle of the seaside town of Broadstairs. It has 20 classrooms, four of which are temporary and are used for music lessons, small group tuition and storage. Facilities include a networked computer suite, video conferencing, a heated indoor swimming pool and a computerised library. Upton's curriculum includes the core and other foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. Pupils participate in athletics, cricket, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, soccer, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, dance, drama and athletics. Facilities for instrumental tuition are available from both Kent Music School and private teachers. All orchestral instruments are taught, together with piano and guitar. Extra-curricular activities vary, but may include art, singing, orchestra, percussion, recorders, environment, netball, swimming and soccer.
