Background:
The school is located in a village environment, south of the A20 between Ashford and Hythe. The school is housed in two main areas, the old school, dating from 1835, and the main school which has a hall, a library, and offices. In the village of approximately 1,000 people, the main industry is agriculture, and the employees of the local prison also send their children to the school. In addition to this, many children attending the school are from nearby villages, and there are increasing numbers from even further afield. The grounds, situated atop the escarpment above Romney Marsh, contain a pond, an environmental area and a large field suitable for all games and sports. The school has recently acquired a new field which is also available for use. The school aims to keep class sizes below 28, with only two age groups per class, although class sizes can vary. Kent Music School tutors on site and there are a number of children who are very active musically, with particular success in violin. There are regular charity events and the school's main commitment is to raise funds for a child in Bangladesh.
