Background:
The school opened in 1863 and moved to its present accommodation in 1962 which was designed and built in 1961. The buildings include a hall, kitchen, and three classrooms, with extra classrooms housed in mobile accommmodation. The school'stands in 'large' grounds which include a playing field, environmental area and two playgrounds. It also boasts an outdoor heated swimming pool. The school is the holder of trophies for the local football and netball tournaments, and over 35% of the pupils are learning to play a musical instrument. The school has links via e-mail and the internet to schools in Finland, Germany and Sweden, as well as links closer to home with other primary and secondary schools. The school also encourages fundraising for national charities each year. Plaxtol Primary is over-subscribed with an average of 23 children applying for every 16 places.
