Background:
Bridge School is situated in a village three miles from Canterbury. The present accommodation was built in the 1970s to replace the original Victorian buildings. The school enjoys views across agricultural land. Academic standards are 'consistently' high, due largely to 'the staff's high expectations of pupils and to the supportive, community atmosphere in which the children work'. The school is 'well-resourced' for work across the curriculum, with a refurbished reference library and equipment for structured play for the younger children. Sporting activities such as football and high five take place, with matches against other schools. Children in Year 6 visit the nearby residential home for the elderly, and there are close links with the local church. Parents, grandparents and friends of the school are encouraged to help with reading, sewing and artwork. Many fundraising events for charities are organised by the pupils. Bridge and Patrixbourne School is 'a caring community where children are taught to respect themselves and others'.
