Background:

Founded in 1870 as a village school, Guston Primary moved to larger premises in 1982 after an army housing estate was built on the outskirts of Guston. The school'sits in well-established grounds with spectacular views of Dover, and consists of a modern, single-storey building with six semi-open plan classrooms, open work areas, and a hall and reference library. Alongside the building is a hard-surface play area, a playing field, a low-level adventure playground, a copse and an environmental area with pond. Children are regularly involved in seasonal celebrations at local parishes with which the school has strong links. Many of the pupils are from army families and the school receives support in many activities from the local battalion. The school is involved in a joint comenius project, agriculture, nutrition and environment, with partner schools in Belgium, Italy, France, Greece and Sweden. This is promoted and funded by the European union and will lead to visits from other schools. The school aims to provide a safe, secure and caring environment in which the development of the whole child can be encouraged.
