Background:

St James' was established in 1866 as a parish school and moved to its present buildings in 1973. Today it remains a Christian community, which aims to 'lay strong academic, moral, social, physical and cultural foundations for each of its pupils'. The open-plan site is shared with the attached infant school and includes two mobile classrooms for music and special needs. The 'extensive' grounds also include a new ICT room and a performing arts studio, hard play area, sports pitches and a wild ecological area with two ponds. As well as a broad curriculum, the school offers a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities and competitive teams in football, netball, athletics and other sports. A 'wide' range of musical activities is also offered. The school possesses 'strong' community links with local groups encouraging 'active involvement' by the children as well as fundraising. As well as aiming to develop 'lively, inquiring minds', St James' 'values' training for all staff.
