Background:
Wilmington Primary moved from its original Victorian building in the 1970s. The current building is modern with 'the latest design in bright energy saving lighting'. Wilmington Parish is a suburb of Dartford but 'retains its village identity'. There are many schools in the area and Wilmington Primary tries to develop links between these including hosting sporting tournaments on its 'extensive' fields. The school boasts considerable sporting success for its relatively small size, including winning the girls district cross country championships in 1997. A number of extra-curricular activities go on throughout the year including dance, singing, music and drama. Money is raised for charity around Christmas with support for Barnado's and Help the Aged. The school also supports children from Chernobyl with gifts and practical help when they visit Kent. The Parent's Association supports the school with 'unwavering enthusiasm' and provides the 'icing on the cake' for the educational resources which are needed. The school is over-subscribed with three applicants for every place.
