Background:

The school is situated on the village green of Fordcombe and plays an active part in village life. It is set in 'attractive rural surroundings' close to Tunbridge Wells. The building dates back to 1862 but has been tranformed over the years by adaptions and extensions. There are three classrooms, one of which is mobile, and a hall used for activities such as PE, assemblies and plays. Behind the school is a playing field and playground adjacent to the church. Although it is a Church of England School with strong links to the church children of other denominations are accepted. School services are held in the church and the rector is a regular visitor. Pupils are arranged in three classes. These are flexible in the case of children who progress particularly fast or slowly. The children participate in activities to raise money for a variety of charities such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, British Heart Foundation and Harvest Help in Zambia. Recycling of foil, paper and other materials is carried out continuously. All children are encouraged to develop musically and learn the recorder in the junior class as well as playing percussion instruments like the xylophone. There are gardening and computer clubs. The school aims to 'provide opportunities for each child to reach his/her potential'.
