Background:
The school was founded in 1675 by Lady Boswell for 12 poor scholars of the town, and has her coat of arms as its badge. It is housed in a single story building built in 1972 in rural surroundings, and adjoins the town swimming pool and library. It is a 'light' building with 'large classrooms' overlooking 'extensive' playing fields. The school is equipped with a library and a room for teaching children with special educational needs. Many extra-curricular clubs are available including computer, gardening and football for both boys and girls. Lady Boswell's is linked with St Nicholas Church and plays a part in the life of the church. Pupils sing at the local senior citizens' home and raise funds for local charities. Each year the children choose one local and one world wide charity for which to raise money. The school has more than twice as many applicants as places.
