Background:
Founded in 1797, Chatham House was originally an independent day and boarding school. Since 1921 it has been a county boys' grammar in central Ramsgate admitting only day pupils. Pupils come from a wide area that includes Margate, Broadstairs, Herne Bay and Whitstable. The school has excellent accommodation facilities and considerable improvements to the building have been made. These include ancient science laboratories converted into well-lit art studios, three excellent new computing rooms, a new music suite, drama and media studies suite. There is also a major playing field extension including enlarged rugby, cricket and athletics facilities and a new astroturf pitch. The school aims to enable every child to reach his or her potential in a caring and supportive environment.
