Background:
In 1839, The National School for the Parishes of Bearsted, Thurnham, Detling, and part of Boxley, was opened on the original site. Roseacre was originally founded in 1870; the current school was built in 1972, since when it has since been 'continually upgraded and extended'. Bearsted is a village situated on the outskirts of Maidstone at the base of the North Downs.ICT and music are particular school strengths, and the school choir and orchestra give concerts. A full range of sport and clubs is offered, including visiting programmes. Golf, cricket and tennis are linked to local clubs. French is offered, with three link schools and residential visits. The school also has been involved in the Primary Latin Project. Children do maypole dancing for charity throughout Kent and there is a 'very active' parents' association.Roseacre was awarded Beacon Status in the year 2000 for its excellence in education. Roseacre School aims to provide a stimulating planned environment which will meet and challenge each child's individual needs, physically, intellectually and emotionally.
