Background:

Set in 'picturesque' surroundings of the North Downs, the school overlooks 'historic' Rochester and the river Medway. Local recreation facilites and a Norman village church are adjacent to the school's 'extensive' grounds. The local community funded a swimming pool on-site and the 'extremely active' Friends' Association has provided many additional resources. The school building contains six 'good-sized' classrooms, three offices and a teachers' room as well as a staffroom. Special needs are met in an extra room for small-group work, and there is also a large hall and kitchen. Recent extension work has resulted in a new library and an informations communication technology network of 16 computers. All classrooms are further equipped with multimedia machines. All core subjects are served by specialist teachers and a sports graduate co-ordinates a range of activites from football to skiing. In 1998 the school participated in the multi-sports league for the first time and in 1999 it ran a pilot scheme for out-of-hours learning. The school has also secured a modular building and submitted bids for out-of-hours childcare and out-of-hours learning funds. It aims to 'provide true community provision for childcare and family learning'.
