Background:

Lordswood shares a large, wooded site with its partner infant school on the outskirts of the Medway Towns, and serves an area of private and local authority housing. It has 13 classes, with smaller classes for daily literacy and numeracy lessons. The modern building offers generous cloakroom/additional work areas, hall, offices and staffroom and a recent extension houses the library and 'state of the art' ICT suite. Four further temporary buildings are used for small group teaching, SEN and music. The school plans soon to replace these with a purpose built extension. A wide range of extra-curricular activities is offered and the school has enjoyed 'considerable local success' in football and netball. There is a choir and instrumental tuition in woodwind and brass. Children also have the opportunity to take part in a residential 'weekend adventure' and ICT based activities. The school'supports an orphanage school in Kenya and children raise substantial funds for local charities. Parental involvement in their children's education is actively encouraged and the school enjoys considerable parental support and generous financial help from the Friends of the School. Two members of staff are LEA designated 'leading maths teachers' and the headteacher is also an Ofsted inspector. The school was recently awarded the Quality Mark of The Basic Skills Agency.
