Background:
The school was founded in 1842 but is now housed in a 'lovely modern' building with some substantial new facilities. In addition to the usual subjects taught through the school's scheme of work, French is provided for older pupils. The sports teams are 'usually very successful' and perform well in district and county events. The cricket team reached the Kent final in 2000. The range of extra-curricular activities includes 'strong provision' for music with 'thriving' orchestra, choir and recorder groups. There are also many visits and two residential school trips. In addition to links with schools in Gravesend, Bromley and Calais, the school is linked with Kitwara School in Uganda which gives pupils the opportunity to learn about life there, and to raise funds. The school achieved Investor in People status and a government Excellence Award in 2001. It is over-subscribed, receiving 1.7 applications for each place.
