Background:
St Margaret's is the largest and oldest school in the busy commuter town of Rainham. Originally founded in 1811, with buildings provided by the National Society in 1846, the school moved into its present buildings in 1968. It conjoins a separate infant school. Facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool and a large field, which is used by local community groups out of school hours. The school offers a wide range of sporting opportunities and pupils regularly play competitively in football, netball, rugby, basketball, cricket, hockey, volleyball and athletics. The school enjoys a good relationship with the Parish Church of St Margaret. It has European Partnership schools in Italy, Germany and Finland, with French, Italian, German and Spanish taught in addition to the National Curriculum. It provides a wide range of arts activities includes dance and choir. The school aims to develop its pupils so that they are equipped for secondary education and for life.
